Jumu'ah
Allah says in the Qur'an:
'O you who believe! When the call is
proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the day of assembly) hasten
earnestly to the remembrance of Allah and leave off business
and every other thing. That is best for you if only you knew!
And when the Jumu'ah prayer is ended you may disperse through
the land and seek the bounty of Allah (by working), and
remember Allah much (without stint) that you may be
successful.' (Sarah 62, Al-Jumu'ah,Ayaat 9-10)
Authentic Jumu'ah narrations:
Abu Sa'id (RA) narrated, 'I testify that
Allah's Apostle (SAW) said, "The taking of a bath on Friday is
compulsory (fard) for every male Muslim who has attained the
age of puberty and also the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak,
and the using of perfume if it is available."'
(Bukhari)
Salman Al-Farsi (RA) narrated that
Allah's Apostle (SAW) said, "Anyone who takes a bath on Friday
and cleans himself as much as he can and puts oil on his hair
or scents himself; and then proceeds for the prayer and does
not force his way between two persons (assembled in the Masjid
for the Friday prayer), and prays as much as is written for him
and remains quiet when the Imam delivers the Khutbah (sermon),
all his sins in between the present and last Friday will be
forgiven." (Bukhari)
Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) and Abu Hurayrah
(RA) heard Allah's Messenger (SAW) say on he planks of his
pulpit, "People must cease to neglect the Friday prayer, or
Allah will seal their hearts and then they will be among the
negligent." (Muslim)
Ali ibn Abu Talib (RA) said on the
pulpit in the Musjid of Kufah, "When Friday comes, the devils
go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their
needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. The angels come
early in the morning, sit at the door of the Masjid and record
that so-and-so came at the first hour, and so-and-so came at
the second hour until the Imam comes out (for preaching). When
a man sits in a place where he can listen (to the sermon) and
look (at the Imam), where he remains silent and does not
interrupt, he will receive a double rewarde. If he stays away,
sits in a place where he cannot listen (to the sermon),
silently, and does not interrupt, he will receive the reward
only once. If he sits Jna place where he can listen (to the
sermon) and look (at the Imam), and he does not remain silent,
he will have the burden of it. If anyone says to his companion
sitting besides him to be silent (while the Imam is preaching)
he is guilty of idle talk. Anyone who interrupts (during the
sermon) will receive nothing (no reward) on that Friday." Then
he (the narrator) says in the end of this narration, "I heard
the Apostle of Allah (SAW) say so." (Abu-Dawood)
Abu Hurayrah (RA) narrated that the
Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "Five prayers and from one
Friday prayer to (the next) Friday prayer is an expiation (of
the sins committed in between their intervals) if major sins
are not committed." (Muslim)
Abu Hurayrah (RA) also narrated that
Allah's Apostle (SAW) talked about Friday and said, "There is
an hour (opportune time) on Friday and if a Muslim gets it
while praying and asks something from Allah, then Allah will
definitely meet his demand." And he (the Prophet (SAW) pointed
out the shortness of that time with his hands.
(Bukhari)
Abu Sai'd (RA) narrated that the Prophet
(SAW) said, "If anyone recites Surah 18 al-Kahf on Friday, a
light will shine brightly for him till the next Friday."
(Tirmidhi and Bayhaqi) Al-Ja'd ad-Damri narrated that the
Prophet (SAW) said, "He who leaves the Friday prayer
(continuously) for three Fridays on account of slackness, Allah
will print a stamp on his heart." (Abu Dawood)
