If we look at the kind of effort Muhammad
(SAW) and his companions made in comparison to the amount
we are making to spread this religion, then it will
become apparent to us that the struggle and effort of our
Holy Prophet (SAW) was full of radiance. Striving and
overcoming hardships in every possible way to propagate
this religion. As a consequence, many ties were broken.
Those who at one time thought of him as trustworthy,
deemed him as a liar and a fabricator.
Nabi (SAW) had to bare pain in his
struggle. The incident of Ta'if is a prime example. He
had to undergo many types of hardships. Many people threw
their garbage on him as he passed by, people warned their
family members to beware of him and his tribe turned
against him. There were also those who did not want to
leave the religion of their forefathers, hence they would
try to bribe Nabi (SAW). They made attempts to
assassinate him. Nabi (SAW) and his family would pass
nights without any food for the sake of Tabligh. He would
spend his nights weeping in the courtyard of Allah. He
would not permit any calamity to befall his nation, even
after rejecting his call. His cry would be "O Allah! Have
mercy and give them guidance." His mentality would be
such that when his people would not accept Islam, he
would have hoped that at least one from amongst their
progeny would accept it. He would be laughed at, mocked
at, sworn and spat at.
However, Nabi (SAW) would not utter a bad
word unto them in hope of guidance. Unlike today's
military commanders, Nabi (SAW)would be at the frontline
of the army, just so that Tabligh may remain
everlasting.
The companions of Nabi (SAW) were no less,
the likes of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (RA) would spend
his entire wealth for this cause. Many companions would
sacrifice their families so that they could propagate
this Deen. Many would sacrifice their own lives to save
another with the hope that Tabligh continues till the end
and many would stand before tyrants speaking out the
truth, and others would travel to the far corners of the
world in order to spread Islam.
This type of Tabligh continued even onto
the later generations which consisted of people such as
Sayd bin Jubair, Imam Abu Hanifah, Imam Malik, Imam
Shaafee, Imam Ahmad, Imam Ghazzalli, Ibn Taymiyyah, Ahmad
Sarhind Mujaddid Alfathaani, Shah Waliullah, Shah Abdul
Aziz, Shah Ismail Shaheed, Haji Imdaadullah, Moulana
Ilyas Dehlawi, Moulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi, Mufti
Mahmood ul Hasan, Moulana Zakariyyah (RA), they all
strived for this cause, died for this cause and
undoubtedly underwent many different forms of hardships
for this cause.
Respected readers, let us think for a
moment, Islam needs to be spread. Will it be of much
effect sitting in front of a computer all day long hoping
for Islam to spread? Sitting around a table topped with
delicious food hoping to solve this problem? Has Islam
ever been spread with that much ease? If we step out into
the open to propagate Islam, we will definitely be
laughed at, mocked at, scoffed at, even by our own
Muslims, and taunted by abusive language, but are we not
of the Ummah of Nabi (SAW)? Are we not here to follow his
footsteps?
History proves that through striving in the
path of Allah, facing hardships and struggling to attain
the ultimate goal will inevitably prove to be successful
at one point or another.
There is a renowned effort taking place. An
effort that carefully follows the trail left behind by
the Ambiyaa. An effort that emulates the effort of the
Prophet (SAW), an effort that places itself in the shoes
of the Prophet (SAW), an effort that encourages one to
propagate through which by hardships are inevitable, an
effort that has carefully studied the fact that Deen will
spread by sacrifice. The effort of Tabligh.
