The True Servants of
Rahman
It has become a regular routine and a norm
for many of us to attend lectures, sermons, seminars,
conferences, study circles, deen intensive courses,
assemblies, meetings wherein a vast array of vital
religious knowledge is presented to us and contemporary
issues addressed by eminent scholars of our era,
organised solely for the correct guidance of the Ummati
(masses) in these times of trial and tribulation.
Similaly, religious computer software, books, magazines,
newsletters and pamphlets are readily available, and as
far as the Internet is concerned it brings a whole new
concept to the notion "information at your fingertips",
due to the numerous websites set up propagating and
addressing Islamic issues. In short the mediums and
avenues through which this sacred knowledge is being made
available are immense and literally uncountable to the
extent that a layman who doesn't intend to be informed of
an issue will surely come to know of it. If we now turn
to the other side of the coin and review our character,
deeds and actions, we will realise that not even in the
slightest does it match the amount of Ilm (knowledge)
available at our disposal. This purely demonstrates a
degeneration and lack of enthusiasm and vigour in
practicing upon the Ilm and carrying out good
deeds
A famous personality Mirza Gaalib says:
"I'm aware of the rewards of submission and devotion
(zuhd) but my temperament is not inclined towards it. We
do acquire knowledge but lack in practice nor do we have
any inclination or zeal for it."
In other words though we may be vigilant in
carrying out basic tenants of faith and acts of worship
such as Salat (prayers), Zakat (charity), Saum (fasting),
Zikr (remembrance of Allah) and recitation of the Qur'an
to an extent, scarcely do we take the time to bring
ourselves to account with regards to conduct and dealing
with our fellowmen in our day to day affairs in the light
of the teachings of Islam, nor do we have any concern or
consider these qualities to be an integral and from
amongst the issues that hold great importance an emphasis
in the teachings of Islam.
Unfortunately our existence, lifestyles and
interacting with people do not mirror a true
representation of the valuble and perpetual teachings of
Islam. With regards to this issue the ultimate solution
to our down fall, the Noble Qur'an, gives us crystal
clear guidelines excellent guidance's and basic clear cut
principles in the concluding verses of the last ruku
(paragraph) of the 25th chapter (Surah Al -
Furqaan).
Allah has taught his servants what social
conduct is all about, setting standards and criteria to
be fulfilled by which if he abides can attain internal as
well as external purity in his daily dealings when in
seclusion or in the public eye. Those will be regarded as
the pious and entitled with the privilege of being
recognised as "the true servants of Allah" in turn
informing his creation on what living a life of piety
really is.
The vital teachings of these blessed verses
should take a practical form in our lifestyles after
understanding its translation interpretation and
significance (advisably under the supervision of a
scholar). Take one teaching at a time comprehend it and
fix it well in the mind and make an effort to make it
part of your routine and a natural habit. A gradual
approach should be taken in inculcating and instilling
these admirable qualities and concepts in ones life
eventually building good all-round characteristics. If
you realise your actions are contradictory to any one of
the morals you are concentrating on then recognise it and
gradually eradicate it, A list could be made of all the
bad habits and get rid of them one by one setting ones
self a target or a deadline. When one has been dealt with
take the next enabling ones self to get rid of negative
habits that have been harboured for year's
inshallah.
When you set foot outside the house be
conscious of the walk mentioned in the verse, and address
your inner conscience saying 'my walk should be like that
of the servants of Allah'. "And the faithful slaves of
the Most Gracious (Allah) are those who walk on the earth
in humility and sedateness ".
